After two years of virtual events, the Demetrix team recently traveled to in-Cosmetics Global in Paris, and Supply Side East in Secaucus, New Jersey. It was exciting to speak about the promise cannabinoids hold in the personal care and nutraceutical market with attendees.
In-Cosmetics Global: A First for Demetrix
Demetrix was a first-time exhibitor at in-Cosmetics Global, arguably the largest event of the year in the personal care space. The conference was attended by startup brands, formulators, analytics & testing, ingredient suppliers/manufacturers, and much more. In attendance from the Demetrix Commercial team was Cynthia Bryant, Chief Business Officer, David DelGuercio, Senior Director of Business Development, and Justin Tylus, Digital Marketing Specialist.
Evonik Partnership Announcement
While the conference was ongoing, Demetrix published a press release announcing our new partnership with German specialty chemicals company Evonik regarding a supply agreement for cannabinoids to be used in beauty and personal care products. Coupling Demetrix proven production technology and Evonik’s leadership position as a sustainable specialties partner to the top beauty and personal care brands, this multi-year relationship focuses on bringing cannabinoids to global markets. This announcement was prominently displayed at both the Demetrix and Evonik booths.
Cannabinoids Take Center Stage
At in-Cosmetics, Demetrix was joined by several other biotechnology companies and cannabinoid specialists aimed at delivering sustainable yet potent formulations for personal care. We were happy to participate in discussions on how cannabinoids can deliver benefits in skincare products, specifically CBG. We know that suppliers, brands, and consumers seek proven ingredients, which lies at the core of Demetrix’s mission.
After three days at in-Cosmetics Global, several themes emerged:
-Customers are seeking sustainable formulations, with proven efficacy in their products.
-Interest in new bioactives are picking up, with new products front and center, including cannabinoids.
-Supply chain constraints have tightened access to certain raw materials, making strong partnerships even more valuable.
Supply Side East
Held in Secaucus, NJ, Supply Side East brings together suppliers and buyers that drive the dietary supplement, food, and beverage industries. Although not exhibiting at this event, Demetrix attended to learn and speak with like-minded companies.
Where do Rare Bioactives Fit in Nutraceuticals?
At Demetrix, our research shows that cannabinoids show strong markers against several attributes that are currently desired in the market. We’re excited to partner with organizations to put rare bioactives in the hands of consumers.
Immune Health as a Baseline for Overall Health
With COVID-19 bringing health and immunity to the forefront, consumers are focused on boosting and maintaining a healthy immune system.
In the last two years there has been an increase in condition specific supplements, vitamins & minerals, homeopathic medicines, and superfoods/whole food supplements on the market. The most common immunity supplements contain vitamin C, vitamin D, probiotics, and zinc, and there is a strong preference for pills, gummies, beverages, and bars.
Stressed Supply Chains and Labor
Another prevalent theme was supply chain issues that many companies are facing. Whether it’s raw material access, shipping, or other delays, everyone in the industry is experiencing unfamiliar challenges.
Delays and breaks in supply have tested supplier relationships. Companies are scrutinizing supplier quality, something Mark LeDoux of NAI recommends when it comes to ongoing partnerships, especially new ones.
The nutraceutical market is ever-changing, with new ingredients, products, and companies entering the market. Highly educated consumers are seeking products that perform, are clean, and fit their lifestyle functions. Demetrix is excited to delve into current market needs and produce proven products that meet consumer demands.
